Kathleen Morasci, owner of the EmbroidMe located at 51 Wright Brothers Ave, Suite G, has started a program to donate thank-you t-shirts for injured soldiers returning from duty and current soldiers who are overseas.
"I wanted to find a way to give back to the community and honor local soldiers," Morasci says.
She invites any child to draw a special picture and/or thank you message to a soldier on a plain white sheet of paper and then she puts the pictures on a t-shirt, which is then given to an injured soldier when he or she arrives at a local VA hospital. The t-shirt is one of the first things the soldiers receive when they get to the hospital.
Several local Girl Scout troops and classrooms have become involved. Morasci and Denny Weisgerber, a Korean veteran, have given presentations about how important it is to honor our soldiers and the sacrifices they make for our freedom. The kids are then invited to create a shirt design for a soldier.
Morasci scans the drawing into a computer and then transfers it to the garment printer in her EmbroidMe store. The printer then transfers the image onto a t-shirt. Each shirt is unique because she only uses each drawing for one specific soldier.
If anyone in the community has a family member currently serving overseas, Morasci will make a thank-you t-shirt for the family to send to their loved one. She has donated almost 150 t-shirts so far to local soldiers.
