Boost Kindness With Good Scents

Once you’ve focused on your marketing, products and event details, take a whiff of the air around you. If you’re having an indoor event, think about popping something in the oven first.

A recent study by scientists at the University of Southern Brittany has found that when people smell baked goods, they are more kind toward others. In the study, people standing outside of a bakery and a clothing store “accidentally” dropped small items. Those in front of the bakery were more likely to pick up the item than those in front of the clothing store.

It’s not just baked goods that do the trick, though; it’s really any pleasant scent. In another study, people were asked for change in a busy shopping mall. When the area was scented, more people were willing to help. People were more likely to help a stranger by picking up an item or providing change for a dollar when in the presence of pleasant odors.

Take this small step and have a huge impact on the amount of good you do.
